Uganda safari highlights 10 days

Explore Kibale forest, Queen Elizabeth, Ishasha, Bwindi forest, Mgahinga and Lake Mburo national park to see wildilfe, gorilla, chimpanzees, birds. Take night game drive, boat ride and forest walks.

Day 1 Kibale Forest: The 10 day Uganda Primate and Wildlife Safari begins. 

We leave Kampala or Entebbe Airport early in the morning for your Uganda Primate and Wildlife Safari. At Mubende we stop for lunch.  You will enjoy the area and its settings, we can visit the ancient 400 year old Nakayima Witch Tree which to some Ugandans holds power and you can hear the story behind it.
That evening before or after a dinner we take an evening forest walk with spotlights to spot nocturnal primates such as the bushbaby and potto (bushbaby night cry is awesome) as well as other nocturnal wildlife and birds.

Day 2 Kibale Forest  Breakfast to get you ready for a full day. 

Back to Kibale Forest for Primate chimpanzee tracking (trekking) experience in Uganda and of course there are other primates there such as Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Red Tailed monkey and Red Colobus Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, L'Hoest's Monkeys, Baboons and then there is wildlife, the forest and its beauty and the abundant birdlife that is in the park.  Kibale Forest is filled with beauty, the mystery of the rainforest, the butterflies.  Back to your lodging for lunch and some rest.
In the afternoon it is a visit to nearby Bigodi Swamp Wetland, a 135 plus kinds of birds can be found here amidst the papyrus, wild palms and polita figs.  You will also observe many monkeys here and even spot the rare sitatunga antelope.  You might even find some chimpanzees
After the walk return to your lodging for dinner and relaxation.

Day 3 Queen Elizabeth national park: 

We move on to Queen Elizabeth Park where we arrive for an early lunch after a four hour drive. Lunchtime it is and afterwards it is a boat ride on Kazinga Channel, home of the largest concentration of Hippos in Africa, Uganda wildlife such as Elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, and a multitude of birds, a fantastic introduction to the Park.  Afterwards return your lodging for dinner. Full Board.
Before or after dinner take a nocturnal Wildlife night game drive which is truly an adventure to see the animals prowling around at night. A Uganda Wildlife Authority Guide Ranger will be along to point out what you otherwise would miss such as Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, nocturnal birds and anything else you might find on a daytime game drive.
Afterwards it is dinner if you did not take an early one and rest.

Day 4 Queen Elizabeth Park:  Early breakfast and off for a morning of Chimpanzee Tracking

and other primates at Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee tracking. A large population of chimpanzee exists in Maramagambo Forest in Queen Elizabeth Park, but the only habituated (being used to humans) is found at Kyambura Gorge.  Besides Chimpanzees one can find Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Vervet Monkeys, Olive Baboons, you might even find the red tailed Monkeys.  Kyambura is also a great place for birdwatchers and you can spot the Black Bee Eater and Blue Bellied Kingfisher along with many forest birds.
After our chimpanzee tracking venture it is a picnic lunch and then a Forest Walk at Maragambo Forest.  You are likely to spot quite a few primates such as L'Hoest's Monkeys, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Red Tailed Monkeys, Black and White Colobus Monkeys and Vervet Monkeys you can also spot some Chimpanzees and might see a leopard in the distance.
Birdwatchers can delight in some Forest Grenbuls, Sunbirds, Woodpeckers and others.
We return to the lodging.
Before dinner we take the late afternoon game drive and also come across some of the fabulous crater lakes, encounter lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and many other mammals and birds and some monkeys.
We return to the lodging for dinner and rest.

Day 5 Queen Elizabeth Park and Bwindi Forest: 

Early morning breakfast the set off for Bwindi forest reserve with a detour on the way for a game drive to search for some tree climbing lions in the Ishasha area south of Queen Elizabeth national park.  They rest in the trees during ┬ádaytime in order to avoid annoying bugs.  Enjoy our packed lunch.
We continue on to Bwindi where we arrive in the afternoon checking in at the lodging facility of choice.
After check in and a well deserved rest it is off for a hike on the three hour Munyaga Waterfall trail where you encounter lots of primates and birds along the lovely trail along the river.
Evening dinner and rest.

Day 6 Bwindi Impenetrable Forest: 

The 10 Uganda safari highlights hits its climax as you will encounter the mountain gorillas during your tracking (Trekking). An early breakfast, a packed lunch and off it is to an orientation and then a long hike up to a full day tracking of Mountain Gorillas.  It can take up to several hours 2-8 to be precise, although sometimes it usually is shorter.  Tracking the gorillas can be challenging at times as the forest floor will most often be soggy. There are pricking shrabs and sometimes thick undergrowth with steep climbing. All well worth it, the cost of the Mountain Gorilla fades into the distance as you view these magnificent creatures up close. When the gorillas are found you will spend one good hour before you late them be. Young gorillas will be playing next to their mothers or up in the creeping trees. While the silverback rest and keeping a keen eye out not missing any sound. This is when you forget about the stress of the trekking and make as much memory as you possibly can.
In the afternoon it is a village walk, time permitting to see the practices and ways of the Bagika and Batwa people...a most rewarding time of activities all done in the traditional ways.

Day 7 Mgahinga Gorilla National Park: 

After breakfast it is off to Mgahinga Gorilla Park, a region that is dotted with active and inactive volcanoes.  In Mgahinga Gorilla Park they are are all inactive.  There are times when Mountain Gorillas can be found in Mgahinga Gorilla Park depending on their movement from and to Rwanda which is nearby.
The beauty of the park, of Lake Mutanda is breathtaking and most stunning.
We check in at our lodging of choice Enjoy your lunch.
In the afternoon it is a boat ride on Lake Mutanda, one of the most beautiful lakes around, Volcanoes in the distance, the quietness of the lake only broken by the sounds of birds and the paddles dipping into the water and an evening sunset, lots of water birds to be seen.

Day 8 Mgahinga Gorilla Park: 

Breakfast and off for a full day at Mgahinga Gorilla Park along with a packed lunch.  Morning Golden Monkey tracking.  This endangered is thriving in the Mgahinga area and there about  4000 of them found here.
The Golden Monkey is quite attractive with its bright orange gold colored body, cheeks and tail, while its limbs are black and is it tail end and crown.
After the Golden Monkey tracking it is lunch time from your packed lunch and after lunch it is off for the Rugezi swamp where you can see Forest Elephants, smaller and hairier than their savannah cousins, also the Bushpig, lots of birds such as Rwenzori Turaco, Western Green Tinkerbird, Olive Woodpecker and more.  You will find some monkeys and other mammals along this trail and be guided by Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger.
Back to your accommodations for dinner and rest.

Day 9 Lake Mburo Park: 

Early Morning Breakfast we then travel to Lake Mburo National Park where we Check in at the lodging of choice. You will have lunch in Mbarara town at Igongo cultural center, classic hotel, Agip motel are the choices available.
Afternoon boat ride to view Hippos, Crocodiles, Impala, Eland, Buffaloes Zebras on the shore, birds in abundance such as African Fin foot, Papyrus, Bush Shrike and many other (315 kinds of birds).
Lake Mburo is a continuance of the Tanzanian Plains into Uganda and it is savannah beauty dotted with acacia trees is simply lovely to behold and it is is one of only two parks with Zebras and a must for Zebra lovers.  There are only two kinds of primates here the Vervet Monkey and Baboons.

Day 10 Lake Mburo: 

Breakfast and off to a morning game drive with zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, leopards to hopefully to be discovered by you.  Recent reports have reported the return of the lions, one male and two females have been found at Lake Mburo.  Lake Mburo used to be a place to find an abundance of lions but during the turbulent days of Uganda and as pastoralist came onto the Lake Mburo land they were killed and displaced.  Presently the lions have tracking devices to determine their movement and see if they will remain here.  It would be delightful if more came.
After the game drive it is off to Kampala and and lunch on the way.  We head for the Entebbe area where we check in at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel up-market, Anderita Beach Hotel moderate or Golf View Inn budget.
